I know it’s been awhile but as everyone knows sometimes life gets in the way. For the past several months, my ‘real’ job has invaded my personal life, and well, you gotta do whatcha gotta do, right? But never fear, I keep looking at the world through a lens, my own. Well, last week I got a chance to dust off the lens and put myself through the lens. My sister-in-law got married.

Joelle and Bill Onorato tied the knot on September 12, 2009. Needless to say, the wedding was outstanding and the reception was held in PNC Park in Pittsburgh, PA. During the nuptials, I held onto my Canon Powershot SD780 camera. As an aspiring photographer, I have always been told the camera doesn’t matter, the lens is in your head. So, with that said, let me know if I was able to capture the moment.

March 2009 has been my busiest and it’s only March 9th, for those of you who don’t know I have been working on the Board of the League of Reston Artists and helping them to develop a growth plan for new space as well as getting sponsorship and benefactors for the League. Always entertaining!

I submitted 3 new works that were rejected. It happens. I can’t say I am surprised I was on a streak there. Since I decided to take the leap last year, I have manage to have something showing somewhere since June 2008. It was a good run and I was honored to have those works shown.

In the meantime, I will be looking to take some new classes as well as get out and snap some photos. It’s spring and it’s alway inspirational for any lover of art.

I am not sure if anyone knows that I have been doing a business podcast with a dear friend of mine – Lorraine Warshaw – we call it KANDL (Kent AND Lorraine). To date, we have 8 shows under our belt and have some great upcoming guests. I encourage everyone to listen at http://www.kandlcast.com – Illuminating Pathways to Business Success.

BIG TOO!! reception on Friday, January 16, 2009. As always, I was impressed (and humbled) by the support of everyone I know and don’t know who continue to support my creative side. For those of you that haven’t seen the pieces, you can view them in the Gallery section or go to the University of Phoenix in Reston through the end of February. As always, I want to continue my thanks to the League of Reston Arstist (LRA) without their shows and support I would not have been able to show any of my photos.

I will keep you posted on any upcoming shows, either become a member or continue to look here for any new announcements.

I am planning on a couple of new things to try including portraits (if I can find anyone comfortable in front of a camera) and more abstract work.

Especially when it comes to my photography and art, one of my 2008 resolutions, and I never made resolutions until last year, was to continue taking pictures and try to have my artwork shown at a gallery or competition. Incredibly I submitted to my first show in June and since then I have had one or more of my works in a judged or juried competition.

I am thrilled to say the trend has not stopped! Surprisingly (and I am still awed that my photos are shown) I have a new show in January 2009! The Reston League of Artists is sponsoring the event. The show is the small works! BIG TOO and is being held at the University of Phoenix at Plaza America in Reston.

The two photos are Lorton Ghosts and After the Storm. One is small (8X10), the other is big (40X60) – the largest piece that I have ever submitted and I must admit the most challenging to produce. I will let everyone know when the Reception will be and I hope to see all of my loyal readers there!

I look forward to another productive year and I made two more resolutions for 2009!

    In closing, I really had a great year in 2008. I started to live a dream of becoming an artist and as soon as I sell my first work, I may feel like a ‘true’ artist! I am looking forward to 2009. I hope you are too!
